I wish I had a six pack!

Well at my age one can only dream of such a prospect but I do like to keep fit and the aforementioned six pack in my advancing years is sadly unattainable but I like to keep fit and be a regular at the gym. In fact probably the only way to get a six pack or to keep fit is to try to go to the gym at last every day and do your workouts and measure your success. I think you can have a Sunday off from going to the gym not necessarily on the same reasoning as Eric Liddell but think of it as a day off from the rigours of the workout. The marketing communications of a company is essentially no different in that you have to put in to practice every day what you are doing to get to that end point or objective but with slightly less sweat!

There is the old anecdote about the young salesman who went to visit a local butcher and bearing in mind the shop had been trading successfully for a number of years the young salesman naively asked why he still advertised and promoted his business? The butcher took the salesman outside the door and pointed to the church on the hill in the distance and asked the young lad the rhetorical question as to why the church after hundreds of years still rang its bells every 15 minutes? “To remind everyone that the church is still there and open for everyone ” An old tale but still a relevant one as the marketing of a business ideally should continue to take place on a consistent and regular basis.

It’s hard to overstate the importance of regular marketing activity. From new startups to local stores, every type of business can benefit from the increased sales and heightened brand awareness that regular marketing campaigns or communications can offer. Simply put, if you’re not marketing your business, you’re not making progress. No matter how great your product or service is, without any marketing efforts, you’re more likely to stand still and be ignored than to move forward and find customers or clients.

Sometimes your best customers might see your promotions or communications many times before they buy anything. A lot of people see an ad or online recommendation and instead of buying straight away, remember the brand name for future reference.

Continually raising awareness plants your business’s brand, its product, and its benefits in the mind of your target audience. By raising awareness through marketing, you’ll build a huge audience of potential customers who know who you are, know what you can offer, and know exactly where to find you. One thing to remember is not to feel too downhearted if your marketing campaigns don’t drive increased sales right away, as raising awareness is often just as important. I didn’t expect after my first to the gym to see the weight coming pouring off and the muscle definition improving…progress is still continuing towards that goal and patience like with your marketing activity is the key!
